Food and Beverage

The food and beverage industry relies on BRECOflex belts, pulleys, and drive components for precise motion control. Our products are engineered to meet specific requirements of food and beverage applications, including FDA compliance, repeatability, and durability under continuous operation and frequent cleaning cycles.

Why engineers specify BRECOflex

For over 30 years, engineers have trusted Brecoflex drive components for their proven quality, innovation, and support.

ISO 19001 Certified: Documented, controlled processes provide consistent manufacturing quality and product improvement.

Scientifically engineered designs: Optimized tooth profiles, materials, and constructions for repeatable and predictable torque transmission, load handling, and positional accuracy.

High-quality materials: Wear- resistant polyurethane combined with high carbon steel tension members delivers durabiliy and long serivce life.

Engineered to application requirements: Personalized support and extensive customizations result in short development timelines and belts designed around application-specific needs.

Timing Belts for the Food and Beverage Industry

BRECOprotect® belts are engineered specifically for FDA applications, making them ideal when frequent cleaning and hygiene standards are primary design concerns, with features that address moisture exposure, inspection requirements, and stability, including:

  • Fully encapsulated cords to minimize moisture exposure
  • Wear-resistant blue polyurethane for food inspection vision systems
  • Easy to clean smooth outer surfaces with sealed edges to reduce bacteria and debris accumulation
  • Length tolerance and pretension consistency across varying humidity conditions to maintain accuracy over time

Popular for: Meat/poultry processing, continuous wash-down systems

ATN® Convertible Timing Belt Systems allow users to adjust the spacing and shape of replaceable profiles and toothbars, eliminating

the need to replace the base belt in applications that require profile layout changes to meet varying product handling needs.

  • Mechanical profiles can be attached and reconfigured using manual handle tools to reduce downtime
  • Polyamide, brass, and stainless-steel inserts to match environmental requirements
  • Inserts are extruded into every tooth to guarantee consistent spacing and positional accuracy

Popular for: Sorting, indexing, and conveying machines, packaging systems

Field connection timing belts utilize mechanical connections, such as connecting plates and threaded pins, to join belt ends in the field, simplifying maintenance and replacement when belt access is limited. Stainless steel connecting components are corrosion-resistant for wet environments, and the reduced maintenance burden helps minimize downtime, both of which are critical in food and beverage conveying systems.

Popular for: Material handling and conveying, food and beverage packaging systems

Timing Belt Backings for Food and Beverage Applications

BRECOflex offers a wide range of timing belt covers that are bonded to belts to increase abrasion and chemical resistance, support specific product handling needs, and meet the regulatory requirements necessary in many food and beverage applications. The additional layer of material can turn a stock timing belt into a solution tailored to the application environment.

An FDA-approved thermoplastic elastomer popular for general-use conveying with a moderately soft durometer rating and increased friction. Available in black and white.

An FDA-approved PVC material resistant to oils, greases, acids, and salts commonly found in food processing environments. Also available in blue.

A PVC material with a herringbone “V” pattern used when wet product handling, guiding, and debris channeling are required.

A textured PVC material with superior slip resistance for secure product conveying in FDA applications.

A 1.6 mm thick textured PVC material that increases grip, maintains FDA compliance, and resists simple oils and fats.

Custom Timing Belts for Food and Beverage

BRECOflex offers application-driven customization options that support precise motion control, load capacity requirements, environmental resistance, and regulatory compliance when standard belts are insufficient. Components are engineered to meet the specific mechanical and environmental requirements while maintaining quality and consistent performance.

Timing belt material: Material selection is critical to a timing belt’s performance, lifespan, and resistance to wear and environmental exposures. BRECOflex offers 11 different polyurethane options for timing belts, three of which are food-grade compliant for demanding food and beverage applications.

Welded Profiles (cleats): Food-grade welded polyurethane profiles provide controlled spacing, product separation, and positioning on conveyor systems. Over 2,000 stock profile shapes are available, with adjustable height, width, thickness, chamfer, curvature, and hole placement. Custom profiles can be engineered to meet specific material handling requirements or system layouts.

Tension member material and arrangement: Tension members determine the structural strength of a timing belt and its ability to maintain accuracy under load. BRECOflex provides several tension member options so belts can handle the environmental conditions of food and beverage applications while still providing superior elongation resistance, even load distribution, and repeatability:

  • Stainless steel and Kevlar (aramid) cord materials resist corrosion and fatigue in wet environments
  • Sealed edges limit moisture exposure and reduce areas for debris and bacteria accumulation to support sanitation needs
  • Tension-free zones enable clean belt perforation for vacuum applications
